How Meili GPS Tracking works for Schools, Expeditions and Families

GPS Trackers and the Meili App
Expediton & Personal Outdoor GPS Trackers
Meili GPS works by combining a high quality GPS tracking device (we call it a Meili), LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) comms technology, and our custom built mobile app for iOS and Android which enables you and your team to setup, monitor and manage your GPS trackers using the app.
The Meili Earth App shows you the status, route (tracks) and location of each Meili GPS Tracker on detailed 1:25000 outdoor maps.
SOS alerts triggerd by Tracker are received in the app, from where you, and your team, can respond, delegate or escalate the alert, as required.

GPS Trackers Designed for the Outdoors
GPS Trackers for Expeditions
Each Meili GPS Tracker independly self locates using the Global Positioning System, an array of GPS satellites orbiting the earth.
The Meili Tracker then connects to our cloud using a low level connection technology that allows it to remain connected long after your mobile phone loses connection:
LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) is a communications technology that enables our devices to send data in places where there is no standard mobile network coverage.
Meili GPS uses a licensed frequency spectrum where there is no interference with other devices, which guarantees a more reliable data transfer and enables communication to the Cloud, and then to the Meili App.
The result? You can monitor a Meili GPS tracker located in New Zealand using the Meili Earth app on a Smartphone located in London, England.
See our blog! We've tested Meili in the Artic Circle, on the northern coast of Iceland, in the French, Swiss and Italian Alps, in the Rockies of Canada, and in the Highlands of England, Wales & Scotland (the last ones being probably the most challenging for connectivity!)
Tracking Groups in the Outdoors with Meili GPS

Manage the risk of leading groups in the outdoors
Tracking Groups in the Outdoors with GPS
Many organisations require the ability track and monitor groups and individuals in the outdoors via GPS:
- Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Organisers
- Outward Bound Centres
- Army Cadets, Scouts, Brownies, CCF
- Ski Schools & Ski Instructors
- Mountain Bike Centres
- Schools & School Trip Organisers
- Employers with employees loneworking in remote locations
- Family Holidays in the Outdoors
But how do you safely and securely share the locations & status of your Meili GPS Trackers with authorised third parties?
We have built a comprehensive suite of permission-based features into the Meili Earth App to allow you to safely manage and share access to your Meili GPS tracker data.
Sharing Location Data Safely

The Meili Sharing Centre: Keeping Data Safe
Safeguarding Young People in the Outdoors
The Sharing Centre enables you to create secure Sharing Sessions.
Sharing Sessions provide third parties that you authorise with access to your Tracker Data via the Meili Earth app.
Sharing Sessions have a start date and and end date, that you set upon creation.
You can invite third parties - such as DofE volunteers, parent helpers, family members, teammates or colleagues - to join a Sharing Session via a shareable link.
Upon receipt of the link the Third Party can download the Meili Earth app (at no additional cost) and request to join the Sharing Session.
Third Party User requests to join a Sharing Session MUST be approved by you as the session administrator.
You can also opt to manually revoke access to Sharing Sessions before they expire, if need be.
Sharing Sessions enable to you safely and securely work as a team to monitor and manage groups in the outdoors.
Crucially, we have built the Sharing Centre with the safeguarding of children in mind.
Each sharing session automatically expires when the end date is reached, eliminating the risk of tracker location sharing continuing after a trip or expedition has ended.
Managing Emergency SOS situations with Meili GPS

SOS!
Meili GPS Tracker SOS Feature
Each Meili GPS Tracker has an SOS button which when deployed sends an alert to your team via the Meili Earth app.
When deployed the Meili GPS Tracker initially vibrates once to let the user know it has sent the alert, then, once the alert is acknowledged by a team member via the Meili Earth app, the tracker vibrates three times to let the user know that the alert has been received, giving you the reassurance that help is on the way.
In the Meili Earth App, users see the alert as a notification whether the app is open or not, and if the alert is not acknowledged immediately, all authorised users are notifications until the alert is actioned.
The SOS feature provides the individual (or group) carrying the Meili GPS Tracker with the means of alerting the team monitoring them of an incident, AND at the same time provides peace of mind to the team who are monitoring!
If an incident requires the deployment of emergency responders, Meili App users are able to share tracker location data using their mobile devices.
High Quality Outdoor Maps

Meili GPS uses 1:25,000 Outdoor Maps
Meili GPS Outdoor Maps with Global Coverage
Many everyday GPS tracking systems ship with Google or Apple maps (or similar) as standard.
The Meili Earth App is designed for adventure use, and features 1:25000 outdoor maps to give you the very best mapping options and detail available, with global coverage.
Outdoor maps are considered better than Google Maps for navigating in wilderness areas because they provide significantly more detailed topographic information, including elevation contours, terrain features, and specific trail data, which are crucial for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities where precise navigation is essential, whereas Google Maps, and similar, primarily focuses on road networks and urban areas, lacking the necessary detail for outdoor situations.
Meili Earth Maps have incredible detail showing ski runs, chair lifts, mountain bike tracks, hiking trails, and even the location of refuges in mountainous areas.
Meili's 1:25,000 maps provide global coverage.
