How MeiliGPS works for ski schools

Track ski groups in real time, built around how ski schools actually run: instructors meet their class at the lift, not at the office.

  1. AssignThe office groups trackers for each instructor in the Sharing Centre: e.g. four trackers for a class of four. Each instructor sees only their own class.
  2. MeetThe instructor hands a tracker to each student at the lift and collects them at the end of the lesson. With up to 14 days' battery, instructors can look after charging themselves.
  3. SkiThe instructor follows the class on their phone. If a student is in trouble, they hold the SOS button, and the instructor and the office are alerted.
  4. CoordinateThe office sees every instructor and every student on one map, so it can direct help to an incident anywhere on the mountain.

When a class splits, your office sees everyone

A student takes a different line while the class carries on down the piste. Or someone is hurt higher up the mountain. The instructor has a hard choice: stay with the group, or go to the student.

With MeiliGPS, the office can see every instructor and every student at once. It can find the student, see which instructor is nearest, and send help, while the class stays safely together.

The class stays together, and help still reaches the student. The instructor stays with their group, while the nearest available help goes to the student.

Built for independent ski schools

Resort-wide tracking systems are sold to resorts. Satellite messengers are built for individuals. MeiliGPS is a system your school owns, and takes to any resort with coverage.

Ski school questions, answered

Will MeiliGPS work at our resort?

Very likely. MeiliGPS trackers have been tested on the mountain across the Alps, Spain and Andorra, Scandinavia including Lapland, the UK and Ireland, as well as Hokkaido in Japan, Lake Louise and Banff in Canada, and popular resorts in New Zealand.

Coverage varies from resort to resort, so tell us where you teach and we'll check before you buy.

Do students need a phone or an app?

No. Students carry a small, screen-free tracker with one button for SOS. Only instructors and your office use the MeiliGPS app or web portal.

How do instructors get their trackers?

Your office groups trackers for each instructor in the Sharing Centre, for example four trackers for a class of four. The instructor sees only their own class on their phone.

Instructors can keep their trackers with them and hand them out when they meet their class at the lift, so nobody needs to call in at the office first.

How long does the battery last, especially in the cold?

Up to 14 days on a single charge, enough for a full ski week. Cold weather shortens any battery's life, so we recommend charging trackers between ski weeks, and topping them up sooner in very cold conditions.

What happens when a student presses SOS?

The student holds the SOS button for ten seconds, which prevents accidental alerts. An alert goes straight to the instructor and the office in the app, with the student's position. If nobody responds, it escalates by SMS and then a phone call.

When the alert is acknowledged, the tracker buzzes to tell the student help is coming. There are no charges for accidental alerts.

What about tunnels, gondolas and buildings?

MeiliGPS uses long-range, low-power networks that reach further than ordinary phone signal, including inside buildings and under trees. If a tracker briefly loses connection, for example in a tunnel, its last reported position and route stay on the map until it reconnects.

Can parents see where their child is?

Only if your school chooses. Every location is shared through the Sharing Centre, with named people only and no public links. Some schools keep tracking to instructors and the office; others invite parents for a set time. Access ends automatically, and you can remove it at any time.

Can we pause trackers out of season?

Yes. Pause any tracker from your account for £1.00 a month, and restart it whenever you need it. There are no contracts, and no activation or reactivation fees.

How many trackers do we need?

One for each student who's out on the mountain at the same time, plus a few spares. Tell us about your busiest week and we'll help you work it out.

How does MeiliGPS handle data protection?

Your school is the data controller, and MeiliGPS acts as data processor under Article 28 of the GDPR. Data is hosted in the UK on Microsoft Azure, which the European Commission recognises as providing adequate protection for personal data. MeiliGPS is certified to ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus. A data processing agreement is available on request.
