Activating an SOS
Managing an SOS
An SOS is activated by pressing the large SOS button on the front of the Meili for more than 5 seconds. This is to prevent accidental activations.
The Meili will buzz when the SOS is activated to let the user know that it has been sent.
The Meili will try to send the SOS using a variety or technologies and when it is received and acknowledged by someone using the app the Meili will issue three long buzzes to notify the user that their SOS has been received and help is on the way.
important
The meili app will initiate a three step escalation process to ensure users are notified of the active SOS. This starts with an app notification followed by a test message and finally a phone.
Receiving an SOS
Managing an SOS
When an SOS is received all members of the sharing session will receive an alert on their phones. This will work whether or not the Meili app is running.
The SOS will be displayed on screen like this. The Meili app will not be available for use until someone in the monitoring team acknowledges the alert. This is to ensure the SOS is clearly managed and not missed. When you acknowledge the alert the user of the Meili will receive three long buzzes to let them know you have got it.
Three Step SOS Escalation
Managing an SOS
Step 1 is a Notification
SOS notification is sent to all members of the Sharing session
If the SOS is not acknowledged within three minutes step 2 is triggered automatically.
Step 2 is a text message
An automated SMS is sent to all users in the sharing session with the name of the Meili; its location and a Google map link to aid with navigating to the SOS incident.
If the SOS is still not acknowledged within a further three minutes step three is triggered automatically.
Step 3 is a phone call
An automated call is placed to all members of the sharing session. The call contains the name of the Meili and directs users to check the SMS and app to acknowledge the SOS.
In this way we hope that an SOS is never missed.
